Invest in yourself. If you want your life to get better you’ve got to spend money on yourself. Many people in the world live trapped in a scarcity mindset when it comes to money to the point they want to pinch pennies and always feel like they’re scraping by. They don’t want to invest in anything. This week in Deeper Thoughts we’re going to discuss one of, if not the most, important thing you can invest in, yourself.
You are the one living your life. If you’re not happy with your lot in life, then you have to build yourself up. And to do that you’re going to have to invest in yourself, which means you’re going to have to spend some money.
Now I want to clarify that there’s a difference in investing, indulging, and wasting, both for money and time. When opportunities come up that you can capitalize on to save money and time for your goals, use them. There’s nothing wrong with being smart with your money. We’ll point out examples in this article as we progress.
What are some reasons we should invest in ourselves? Investing in ourselves helps to increase our knowledge and experience. It helps to make us more versatile. When you invest in yourself you boost your confidence and self esteem. It helps you bring more money to you, which allows you to invest in yourself more, as well as other areas. It will help increase your vitality and overall health.
Now that we know some reasons we should be investing in ourselves, let’s take a look at some examples of areas in our lives where we might need to.
If you want to live healthier you just might have to pay a little more for higher quality food from a market instead of fast food every day. You might have to pay for a gym membership or buy your own bench and weights for a home gym. You don’t have to make massive sweeping changes to your health, but make healthier investments in your food and over time increase that budget. Healthier, high quality foods will leave you with more energy and help you feel better, than the cheaper processed junk they serve in fast food chains.
Some books at a library might be harder to find and you just might have to buy it if it has information you want. This being said, if you only need a small portion of the information in some books, you can always make photocopies for your records and/or take extensive notes. This goes back to being smart with your money, as we mentioned earlier. Sometimes this can be more difficult for deeper research and it can be great to have your own copy on hand. Having the full information on hand like this saves you time, and anything that saves you time is an investment in itself!
If you want to learn a new skill, you might have to pay for courses to get the latest and most accurate information so you can be good at it. Overall, there’s only so much information you can find for free online and you might have to spend a little bit of money to get more information, which you can use to your advantage. You might not have to go back to college, but even smaller courses from reputable sources can lead to great dividends down the line.
Want to make better first impressions? You might have to update your wardrobe. This isn’t to say you have to spend thousands of dollars on designer brands. Save up a little bit of cash and get inexpensive new clothes that look good on you and make you feel good. It gives you that confidence boost.
Getting what you can for free is all well and good, but in many situations free will only get you so far. You’ve got to be willing to invest in yourself. As you invest in yourself, your confidence goes up because you’re building it up yourself.
But don’t go too far into the other end of the spectrum. Don’t spend beyond your means to invest in yourself. If something is out of your price range for now, don’t say “I can’t afford it.” Instead ask “How can I make this happen?” Usually a simple budget where you set aside a little at a time will get you there. Make sure your bills are getting paid and food is going on the table, but make sure you’re setting some money aside so you can build yourself up.
If you aren’t willing to invest in yourself, you’re telling your subconscious that you aren’t worthy of improving yourself, which will cause you to keep holding yourself back.
Hopefully this article will help you to gain an idea of why it’s important to invest in yourself. You are the most important thing you can invest in, and you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to do so so that you can be the best version of yourself!
