Work is one of the biggest four letter words for many people. There’s a lot of people out there in today’s world who put in more work to get out of work, than the amount of work it would be to do what they’re avoiding. Nothing great will come to you without some form of work, and more work will be needed in order to keep it once acquired. This week in Deeper Thoughts we’re going to discuss that four letter word that no one likes, work.
Don’t be afraid to put in some work. So many people want things to fall into their lap without having to put in any effort, but that’s not how things work. Even if you’re one of the few to get this lucky, like winning the lottery for example, unless you’re working to manage that money, researching how to invest it, staying on top of things instead of being lazy and just spending that money on shiny new things, you’ll lose it.
If you’re working a job to get by then you have to work, like it or not. You can work hard to save up and get ahead. You can work hard and make your way up the ladder and get promotions. These are the simplest thoughts we have about work.
But many of us don’t want to work that factory or retail job. But you might have to do it while going to college or trade school, on top of doing what work needs to be done to get that degree or certification to get that better paying job.
This isn’t saying you have to always work hard till the end of your days, but you will have to do some work to get what you want. If you want to be a successful day trader, then you have to study the ins and outs of the stock market. You’ll have to understand how stocks work, the trends of the market, terminology, timing, and a host of other things involving the market. Then you have to put in the work to get in the game and stay on top of things so you keep building that wealth for yourself and maintaining it.
You might be wanting to start a business for yourself. If that’s the case you’re going to have to again use that four letter word, work, to understand all of those ins and outs. Taxes, payroll, inventory, costs of goods, equipment, etc. And then if you’re needing a physical location to do business you have to research for your ideal location and rent prices there. You’ll have to understand budgeting. You’ll have to then put in a lot of work and long hours to get that business up and running and then to have it take off towards success.
You might want to focus on more passive income. You have to do work to understand how that works and how to set it up. If you’re wanting to invest in rental real estate you might have to grind a bit to get that down payment for that property, and then work to get the down payment you need to purchase it, fix up the space, and work to advertise it. It should also be noted that even if you’re wanting a house not to rent out but to live in, you’ll more than likely have to work hard to achieve this goal, unless you inherit it.
If you’re wanting to write a book, then you’ll have to do a lot of research and put in long hours to write it and cite your sources. If it’s fictional work, you still have to put in the time to write and edit it, then work to get it published, either via a major publisher or doing it yourself.
If you’re wanting to put together some sort of course or seminars then yes you’ll still have to work. You have to put in the initial work to create that course, be it written or visual, both will take editing. There’s a lot of upfront work needed for this. Then you must work to advertise it and keep it relevant so you continue to have new customers.
Even things that aren’t involving money or business take work. Look at relationships. So many relationships fail because one or both people stop putting in work into the relationships and things fall apart as a result. Relationships take constant work to improve and thrive. Constant work to provide containment, healthy ownership, and caretaking have to always be going on to keep the relationship healthy.
People’s journey into self help, self improvement, expansion, leveling up, whatever you want to call it is the same way. You don’t just do some work and BOOM you’re done! It’s a constant practice that you keep putting in the work for until the end of your days.
Even the things and hobbies you do for fun take work, even if you’re not trying to use them for financial gains. If you’re writing, playing music, or creating art, if you want to get better at it, then you have to put in long hours of work to get better and better. All that practice builds up on itself over time and you improve on your chosen craft.
Don’t be afraid of that four letter word, work. It’s a good thing if you’re smart about it and know what you’re doing. Like I said earlier, most people don’t want to put in any work into anything, so if you are actually doing it, you’re gonna be miles ahead of so many other people in this world.
Thank you for once again reading, and as always, have an enlightening day.
